Stop-motion puppets · Midjourney
A still frame from a stop-motion animated short film. Handmade puppets with knitted and felt clothes, real fiber hair and glass-bead eyes, slightly visible seams. A miniature handmade set with real tiny props: wood grain, fabric curtains, cotton-wool clouds and raindrops made of clear resin. Shallow depth of field like a macro lens on a miniature. Warm practical lighting from tiny lamps. Palette: mustard yellow, dusty blue, warm wood brown, cream, and one note of red. Everything stays handmade and miniature, and nothing becomes photoreal. A girl of about eight with short black hair in two small bunches, wearing a mustard-yellow knitted sweater and grey leggings, sits on a deep window seat with her chin on her hands, staring out at the rain. A small scruffy white terrier with one brown ear and a red collar lies asleep across her lap. A cozy attic bedroom, with cushions, a few books and a potted plant on the window seat. Through the window, wet tiled rooftops, chimneys and a grey sky, raindrops running down the glass, and one beam of sunlight breaking through the clouds and falling across the girl and the dog. Seen from inside the room at her eye level, the girl and the dog in the lower half of the frame, the window above them. The image fills the entire frame edge to edge, no borders or bars. No text anywhere. --ar 9:16 --raw --stylize 100 --v 8.2 --relax --no letterbox, black bars, borders, matte, split screen, diptych, triptych, collage, grid, text
Classic hand-drawn feature · Midjourney
A still frame from a classic hand-drawn 2D animated feature from the 1990s. Clean confident ink lines, flat cel colors with soft painted shadow shapes, lush hand-painted gouache backgrounds, expressive drawn faces and sparkle highlights in the eyes. Layered depth like a multiplane camera: a soft foreground layer, a sharp middle layer and a painted background. Palette: rich storybook colors, deep rain blue against warm sunny gold, mustard yellow and one note of red. Comic-book halftone · Midjourney
A still frame from an animated short film in a bold comic-book style. Thick black ink outlines, flat bold colors printed with visible halftone dots, slightly offset color registration like a printed page, hatched ink shadows. The rain is drawn as graphic streaks with no letters in them. Palette: printed primary colors, cyan, magenta and yellow on cream paper, with heavy black. Silhouette shadow puppets · Midjourney
A still frame from an animated short film in a silhouette shadow-puppet style. Every character and object in front is a flat black paper cutout with intricate cut detail, lace-like edges and jointed limbs with visible hinge points, seen in profile. The only feature on a face is a tiny cut-out eye. Behind them, glowing backgrounds of layered translucent colored paper, lit from behind like a paper theater. Palette: pure black silhouettes against glowing amber, rose, turquoise and deep blue. Charcoal and pencil sketch · Midjourney
A still frame from an animated short film, drawn in rough charcoal and graphite on off-white paper. Loose sketchy lines drawn over each other, smudged shading, eraser marks, visible paper grain, and unfinished edges where the drawing fades into blank paper. The image is grey and black, with only two colors, both added in colored pencil: the yellow of her sweater and the red of the dog's collar. Oil paint on glass · Midjourney
A still frame from an animated short film, painted as a thick oil painting on glass. Heavy visible brushstrokes, colors smeared and blended into each other, impasto highlights catching the light. Palette: deep blues and violets in the rain, broken by warm golds and greens where the sun comes through. A girl of about eight with short black hair in two small bunches, wearing a mustard-yellow knitted sweater and grey leggings, sits on a deep window seat with her chin on her hands, staring out at the rain. Why it works

These six prompts are the same except for the first paragraph. That paragraph is the style block. Everything under it, the girl, the dog, the window seat and the rain, is word for word the same in all six.

A style block does four jobs: it names what the picture is made of, what you would see up close, how the light and lens behave, and which colors to use. Each slide shows one of those jobs in one of the six styles.

Name what it is made of. The oil paint prompt says a thick oil painting on glass. Say oil paint, and every edge in the frame turns into a brushstroke.

Name what you would see up close. The comic-book prompt asks for visible halftone dots. Printed dots are what make a frame look like a page from a comic, so name them.

Name where the light comes from. The shadow-puppet prompt says the paper is lit from behind like a paper theater. Light behind the paper turns the girl and the dog into black shapes.

Name the lens. The stop-motion prompt asks for shallow focus like a macro lens on a miniature. A blurred background makes the room look like a tabletop model.

Name the colors. The hand-drawn prompt asks for deep rain blue against warm sunny gold. Cold blue rain and a warm gold sunbeam split the frame in two.

Save color for what matters. The charcoal prompt allows only two colors, both added in colored pencil. In a grey drawing, the yellow sweater is the first thing you see.

Before you run it

Use the same settings. All six were made with --raw --stylize 100 --v 8.2.

Leave painting and illustration off the --no list. Our photoreal prompts block both words. These six are drawn or painted, so blocking them would fight every style.

Use physical words, not style names. “Claymation” alone tends to come back as a smooth 3D render. Felt, knitted wool and glass-bead eyes come back as puppets.

Never name a studio, a show or a famous character. Describe the look instead.

To make it yours, keep a style block and change everything under it. Swap the girl, the dog and the window for your own scene.
